Workspaces that keep up with you.
Dynamic workspaces, two tiling modes, switchers for every window and wallpapers that can move: how the LunaDash desktop behaves.
Workspaces grow and shrink
There is always exactly one empty workspace after the last one that has windows. Open a window there and the next empty workspace appears; leave an empty workspace between occupied ones and it disappears. Switching slides the whole workspace sideways; turn off animations or choose a speed in Settings → Appearance. The panel shows the workspaces as dots or numbers.
Fill or Normal tiling
Ordinary windows are tiled. Super+Shift+Space, or Settings → Windows, switches between two modes and keeps every window where it belongs:
- Fill: a split tree divides the screen between the windows. Two windows sit side by side; later windows split the focused or the largest tile.
- Normal: like niri, every window keeps its column width (half the screen by default), new windows open as a column to the right of the focused one and the view scrolls sideways to keep the focused column visible. Columns can stack several windows.
In both modes Super+F maximizes over the work area, Alt+drag moves a window and Alt+Shift+drag resizes it. Gaps, window opacity and blur are in Settings → Windows.
Find any window
Alt+Tab opens a box in the middle of the screen with every window in the taskbar, the current workspace first; release Alt to switch, even to another workspace. Super+Tab shows the workspaces with the icons of their windows. Both boxes can be clicked, and the window button next to the panel's workspaces opens them (right-click: workspaces).
Wallpapers, still or moving
Super+W opens the wallpaper library: your wallpaper folder (~/Pictures/Wallpapers by default, changeable in the library) and LunaDash's own wallpapers, with search, Library / Bundled / Favorites, categories, a Static / Live filter, favourite stars, a random choice and the dark / light / auto switch. Settings → Wallpaper also browses any folder or picks a single file.
PNG, JPEG, WebP, BMP and GIF images work as wallpapers. MP4, WebM, MKV, MOV and M4V videos play muted in a loop through mpvpaper, beneath the shell's desktop clock; without mpvpaper LunaDash shows a still frame. Fit, dimming and the desktop clock are in Settings → Wallpaper.
